This quote rings very true with me. I can only imagine how hard it was on the early Pilgrims, yet they were able to maintain an attitude of gratitude and give thanks to God for all of His provision. That’s how I want to live my life—always trying to maintain that gratitude.
“If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, ‘thank you,’ that would suffice.” ~ Meister Eckhart
How true—I don’t think we thank God enough, for all that He does in our lives. Not only what He does, we need to worship Him for who He is—the Almighty God of the universe. Being thankful will go a long way towards keeping us in the proper mindset and enable us to live a healthy emotional lifestyle.
“Thanksgiving Day is a jewel, to set in the hearts of honest men; but be careful that you do not take the day, and leave out the gratitude.” ~ E.P. Powell
I’ve always enjoyed Thanksgiving Day—LOVE the great food and spending time with family and taking the time to be thankful. I agree with the quote above that we need to make certain not to love the food and all the other trappings of the day and forget about the real reason for this holiday—to be grateful.
“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” ~John Fitzgerald Kennedy
Actions speak louder than words—we all need to learn to live this way. Our gratitude should be given to God all year long. Of course, this is easier said than done, but the Lord knows our hearts and our intentions. No one is perfect and that’s the awesome part about God’s grace in our lives—the thing I am most thankful for. He loves us even when we don’t deserve it and He asks us to do the same for others.
